Who We Are

Geko Publishing (Pty) Ltd is an independent, black-owned publishing company. Geko publishes modern, cutting-edge literature that is usually on the fringes of mainstream publishers. Geko is a traditional publisher – with interest in publishing across genres and languages. We see books as cornerstones of history. We also publish BKO Poetry & Literature Magazine.

Our Vision

In a period spanning nearly two decades, Geko has published South African (English and other languages) literature, including fiction, poetry and biographies by some of the country’s multi-award-winning writers and academics, culminating in over 30 titles published. In addition, Geko awards Geko Mofolo Prize for Outstanding Fiction in Sesotho, administered in South Africa.

What we do

How we do it

Author partnership

We partner with our authors to ensure that they can also derive the most benefit from their work ... To us, you are not just a writer - you are a partner!

Traditional & hybrid

While we are a traditional publisher, we also assist authors to self publish in and through our self-publishing, hybrid model.

100% black-owned

We are 100% black-owned and self-funded. We truly publish what we like and we are looking for groundbreaking literary work by Africans to publish.
